With India’s regular Test opener Murali Vijay being ruled out of the three-Test series against Sri Lanka, beginning on July 26, with a wrist injury, Shikhar Dhawan gets another chance to resurrect his Test career, as he has been announced as replacement.

"The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Monday named Shikhar Dhawan as the replacement for injured Murali Vijay in the Test team, which is scheduled to travel to Sri Lanka for a three-match Test series," BCCI said in a media release.

Vijay, who was in and out of the team during the Australia series owing to the injury, had travelled to the UK for surgery on his injured wrist. He missed the IPL, and is still complaining of pain in his wrist.

"Vijay, who had suffered a wrist injury during Australia's tour of India, has complained of pain in his right wrist, while playing a preparatory match. The BCCI medical team has therefore advised that Vijay should continue his rehabilitation program," the release stated.

Vijay scored 771 runs in the 12 Tests he played at home, with three hundreds. Abhinav Mukund has been chosen as the third opener in the team.
