In some shocking news, ex-India cricketer and Delhi and District Cricket Association chairman of senior selection committee Amit Bhandari was assaulted in New Delhi's Kashmere Gate area on Monday, at the St Stephen's Ground.

According to reports, the trials of the Under-23 team were going on at the venue. Reports further claimed that the assailants were apparently U-23 aspirants who failed to get selected.

NDTV reported that the former India pacer was attacked with iron rods and hockey sticks. He was taken to hospital by another selector Sukhvinder Singh.

The report further mentioned that Bhandari is admitted in the Sant Accirito Hospital. He received injuries on his head and legs. His condition is said to be out of danger.

A DDCA official told IANS an FIR will be registered in the case. Meanwhile, Bhandari is said to have got seven stitches on his legs and head.
