Young talent Shubman Gill expressed disappointment at being not selected in any of India's three squads for the upcoming tour of West Indies, which begins on August 3. It was a rather surprising decision as Gill totalled 218 runs for India A as part of the five-match series in West Indies. This included three half-centuries.

Gill admitted to Cricketnext that he was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced on Sunday and expected to be selected for at least one of the squads. “It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it. I’ll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors," Gill went on to add in the Cricketnext report.

Reflecting on the series in West Indies, Gill said it was a fantastic series for him and the team as they won with a 4-1 margin. Despite the disappointment, Gill believes the success in the Caribbean will stand him in good stead for the future.

“The West Indies team that we faced here in the series was very good. The pitches, especially in the first few one-dayers, were very tough to bat on. It was tough challenging cricket and it’s good that we managed to come out on top,” Gill further stated.

The youngster stated the biggest lesson for him from the West Indies series was that he must try to curb his natural instinct depending on match conditions.Apart from an impressive IPL, Gill also scored 700 runs in the Ranji season.

The tour of West Indies will be India's first assignment following their World Cup campaign, which ended after being knocked out in the semi-finals by New Zealand.
