The BCCI selection committee has recalled Rishabh Pant to the ODI squad while dropping Dinesh Karthik. Speaking about Pant’s recall to the ODI squad, chairman of selectors MSK Prasad said the committee wanted to give him a few chances before finalising the 2019 World Cup squad.

Speaking about Pant, Prasad was quoted as saying in an IANS report, “We have included him considering the fact that he is a left-hander and we are going to discuss with the team management."

He further explained, "We will try and figure the best possible batting position for Pant. With a left-hander in the side, there is an advantage of left-right combination. We want to give Pant a few ODIs before taking a final call on World Cup.”

Prasad was also pleased with Vijay Shankar's performance in New Zealand, and reasoned why the all-rounder has retained his place in the team.

"Shankar's performance in the recent series really changed a bit of dynamics and he brings a double impact to the side that's why we have included him. We'll see how he performs in the next few matches," he said.

Meanwhile, pacer Siddarth Kaul has also been included in the team ahead of left-armer Khaleel Ahmed while spinner Mayank Markande got a maiden call up.
