Mahela Jayawardene, the winning Captain and also the Man of the Match says : "It means a lot for us, the crowd has been wonderful for us, they have been like a 12th man for us right through. It was a tough call to leave out Akila, we felt that they had a lot of right and left handers and played to our strength. We were probably 15 runs short, we have not played a lot on this surface. The bowlers backed us well and the fielding was outstanding. I am not really fussed about our oponents on Sunday, we need to win against the best to win the Cup."
The losing Pakistan Captain Mohammad Hafeez says: "I am really proud about the way the team played, everybody gave 100% on the field. There were some positives, Nasir and Hasan played really well. I will not blame the pitch, it was the same for both teams, but they played well and deserved to win. It was a good game of cricket, I thank everyone who came here to support our team. We wanted to do something for them, but it did not suffice." |

For Sri Lanka, Rangana Herath did all the difference taking 3 for 25 in 4 overs. It included the consecutive wickets of Hafeez and Afridi which was a big turning point. Lasith Malinga, of course did a fine job despite bowling a few costly wides, dropping a sitter but in the end coming good. |
|
Pakistan were favourites to win the match after restricting Sri Lanka to 139. But as always, the Pakistani batsmen just don't play well in a run chase. The likes of Malik, Afridi not contributing despite having loads of experience! Hafeez provided the hope for Pakistan but got out leaving the job half done. It was beyond Umar Akmal to get the remaining runs. |
|
It is the second time that Sri Lanka have made it to the World T20 Final. Pakistan on the other have lost their second consecutive Semi Final. |
