West Indies and Sri Lanka are languishing in the lower half of the points table in Group 1, which is being referred to as the group of death. Sri Lanka are fourth with a solitary win from four games. They have competed hard in most matches but have been unable to put the finishing touches on all the other matches barring the Bangladesh win. They would be keen to end a disappointing tournament on a high.
In their previous match against England, Sri Lanka had the opposition batting in big trouble at 35 for 3. However, England recovered courtesy Jos Buttler’s brilliant hundred to post a 160-plus total. Sri Lanka were in the hunt courtesy Wanindu Hasaranga and a couple of others. But they were fighting a lost cause as the top and middle-order disappointed again. Sri Lanka’s loss to England pretty much summed up their campaign
West Indies have been extremely poor in their T20 World Cup title defence. The only reason they beat Bangladesh was because the Asian side played worse cricket than them. Batting first, the Windies had stumbled to 62 for 4. They recovered to post 142 courtesy Nicholas Pooran’s blazing cameo. Bangladesh could have chased it down but their batters allowed West Indies to get their first points on the table
