Glenn Maxwell returned to the Test side after two years with a brilliant hundred. He admitted that his partnership with skipper Steve Smith has put the team in an excellent position, following the second day's play of the third Test at Ranchi against India.

Maxwell (104) and Smith (178 not out) added 191 for the fifth wicket, as Australia posted 451. On his knock, Maxwell was quoted as saying in an IANS report, "Very happy to get back into the Test team. That partnership with (Smith) Smudge put us in a good position. To have that faith shown in me, to produce that innings has been really amazing,"

Known for his big-hitting, Maxwell dug in for a subdued knock. "I felt very comfortable out there, that was obviously something I have been working on. But now we got to be disciplined again. We have got the ball reversing," Maxwell added.

In reply, India ended the day on 120/1, losing the opener Lokesh Rahul (67). Maxwell admitted that he would have liked a few more wickets. "We would have liked one or two more wickets. The pitch was a little bit more up and down, and a little bit more spin today. Hopefully that continues as the match wears on," he went on to say.
