New Zealand sealed their 3-ODI Series against England with a massive 86-run victory in the Second ODI at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. The Kiwi victory was set up by a second consecutive century from opener Martin Guptill. The 26-year-old scored 189* which is the highest ever ODI score made by a New Zealander till date.

Guptill scored his 189 not out in 155 balls with 19 fours and 2 sixes as New Zealand batted out England from the contest with a huge total of 359 for 3. The other Kiwi batsmen who made merry on the flat Southampton pitch were Kane Williamson (55 from 63 balls with 3 fours), Ross Taylor (60 from 54 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes) and Skipper Brendon McCullum (40* from 19 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes). Fast bowler Jade Dernbach suffered the most amongst the English bowlers conceding 87 off his 10 overs while Tim Bresnan went for 73 off his 10 overs.

England had a promising start of 50 for 1 in 8 overs but quickly lost the plot in the run chase. Jonathan Trott helped himself to a 4th ODI ton, scoring an unbeaten 109 from 104 balls with 5 fours and a six. None of the batsmen could support him in the cause and England folded to 273 all out in 44.1 overs. Mitchell McClenaghan was the most successful Kiwi bowler taking 3 for 35.
