Royal Challengers Bangalore collected their crucial victory against hosts Delhi Daredevils at the Feroz Shah Kotla. The visitors held onto a 4-run win in what was a high-scoring contest. RCB now have 8 wins in 13 matches while the Delhi Daredevils are second from the bottom with 10 defeats in 13 matches. The RCB victory was set up by Captain Virat Kohli and was finished by Jaydev Unadkat.

Asked to bat first, RCB lost Chris Gayle early when the left-hander dragged a pull back onto his stumps off Siddarth Kaul in the 2nd over. The visitors after that were steadied by a 57-run stand for the 3rd wicket between Kohli and Henriques (26 from 22 balls).

Kohli, who got to a patient fifty, shifted gears in the company of AB de Villiers to give severe treatment to the Delhi bowlers in the death overs. AB de Villiers chipped in with a cameo of 32* from 17 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. Kohli out of nowhere got into the 90s in the final over but fell just the one run short when he was run out trying to take a second run in the final ball of the innings. Kohli’s 99 came in 58 balls with 10 fours and 4 sixes to power RCB to 183 for 4. For the hosts, Irfan Pathan with 4-0-24-1 and Shahbaz Nadeem with 4-0-23-1 did a good job. It was a forgettable game for speedster Umesh Yadav who was plundered for 65 runs off his 4 overs.

Delhi Daredevils chasing 184 got off to a flier of sorts but quickly slipped away after losing the big wickets of Mahela Jayawardene and Virender Sehwag who were both dismissed by left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat. David Warner was cleaned up by a late away swinger from Moises Henriques which left Delhi at 60 for 3 in 6.5 overs.

Ben Rohrer troubled the RCB bowlers with his aggressive shots but got out after scoring a 27-ball 32 when he was bowled off an inside edge to a Vinay Kumar delivey. Unmukt Chand, who was lucky not to be given out to Vinay Kumar despite getting a thick edge to the keeper, went onto score 41 from 35 balls. Delhi weren’t quite there in the contest and in the final over needed 19 runs to win. Irfan Pathan (23* from 11 balls) gave some hopes with Morne Morkel (19 from 10 balls) but couldn’t quite deliver a miraculous win with Unadkat holding his nerve in the final over. Delhi finished with 179 for 7 to go down with a fight. Unadkat became the second bowler after Rajasthan’s Faulkner to register a five-wicket haul in this season of the IPL. For his 5 for 25, Unadkat got the Man of the Match award ahead of Kohli.

Toss and Teams: Delhi Daredevils led by David Warner have won the toss and asked Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat first at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Surprisingly, Mahela Jayawardene is very much in the Delhi XI but not as the Captain.
