Kevin Pietersen on his comeback for England found some form by scoring a cracking century on the opening day’s play of the tourists’ warm-up match against Haryana at Ahmedabad. The visitors flayed the Haryana attack to end Day 1 of the 4-day match at 408 for 3 after winning the toss and electing to bat first.

It was a strong opening start for England with Alastair Cook (97 from 114 balls with 18 fours) and Nick Compton (74 from 144 balls with 9 fours and a six) putting up 166 runs for the first wicket. Jonathan Trott scored 46 while the highlight of the day was Kevin Pietersen who retired after smashing 110 in just 94 balls. Pietersen hit 16 fours and 3 sixes.

Kevin PietersenThe day’s play also saw Ian Bell ease to an unbeaten 57 (from 82 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes). The Haryana team is led by India Test discard and leg-spinner Amit Mishra who took the wickets of Compton and Trott.
