Chennai Super Kings bounced back strongly after their poor batting show against Mumbai Indians by thrashing hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad by 77 runs. CSK piled up a massive total of 223 against the Steyn led Sunrisers attack thanks to a brutal assault from Suresh Raina who missed out on his second century of this IPL season by a whisker. CSK remain at the top of all the teams with 10 wins in 13 matches. SRH are in the fifth position with 5 defeats in 12 games.

It was a disastrous move from Sangakkara to ask CSK to bat first after winning the toss. Despite a maiden over start from Steyn, Sunrisers lost the plot conceding far too many runs in the powerplay. Even Murali Vijay found some touch to hit 2 fours and 3 sixes in a 20-ball 29. The in-form Michael Hussey carried on to score 67 from 52 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes while putting up a massive 133-run stand with the explosive Suresh Raina for the 2nd wicket.

Suresh Raina finished the innings unbeaten on 99 from 52 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes. It was incredible to see Dale Steyn manage figures of 4-1-17-0 despite the batting side raking up 223 in 20 overs. Ishant Sharma suffered the most amongst the SRH bowlers getting hit for 66 runs in 4 overs.

There was no chance for the Sunrisers to come anywhere closer to CSK’s 223 for the simple fact that their batting line-up doesn’t have enough talent. Shikhar Dhawan, their best batsman got out early through a run out. Parthiv Patel tried to come up with his best but it was only a 30-ball 44 which wasn’t going to turn the complexion of the match. Sunrisers quickly slipped into a losing position at 64 for 5 in 9 overs because of the high required run rate.

Sunrisers eventually ended up with a modest total of 146 for 8. Most of the bowlers used by MS Dhoni did a good job. As expected, Suresh Raina got the Man of the Match for his blistering knock.

Toss and Teams: Hosts Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and asked Chennai Super Kings to bat first at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Sunrisers are fielding the same XI while CSK have made one change with Jason Holder replacing Ben Laughlin.
