Hosts Chennai Super Kings defeated Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 11 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Batting first after winning the toss, CSK looked to play an agressive game but kept on losing wickets to find itself at 97 for 4 in the 15th over. Eventually the hosts were restricted to a modest 152 for 5 with the top scorer being Wriddhiman Saha who made an unbeaten 46 from 33 balls with a four and 3 sixes. Ravindra Jadeja was the best bowler for Kochi taking 2 for 26 in his 4 overs.
In their run chase, Kochi Tuskers had Brendon McCullum staying for a decently long period for nearly 14 overs but the destructive batsman could only score 33 from 37 balls. As a result, Kochi were always behind the required run rate leaving too many to get from the final three overs. Brad Hodge scored a valiant 51 from 42 balls with 3 fours and 2 sixes but the target was just too much for him in the end. Kochi finished at 141 for 5 to lose by 11 runs. Ashwin was the pick of the bowlers for CSK giving away only 16 runs in his 4 overs besides taking a wicket. The Man of the Match award went to Wriddhiman Saha for his crucial knock of 46 not out.
