South Africa were rescued from a shaky position of 33 for 3 to 311 for 5 by Stumps on Day 1 of the second and final Test Match against Pakistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Jacques Kallis with an attacking 105 from 147 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes rescued the Proteas with AB de Villiers who stayed undefeated on 120 with 11 fours and a six. This was after debutant pacer Tanvir Ahmed rocked the SA top order with three quick wickets. Tanvir returned back later on to dislodge Jacques Kallis with a sharp indipper. Pakistan had won the toss in this Test Match and they asked SA to bat first.
