Hashim Amla went onto score his 6th ODI century to aid South Africa in winning the third ODI at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday. It was a narrow victory by 2 runs for the Proteas as Pakistan choked to score the moderate target of 229 in 50 overs.
Asked to bat first by Shahid Afridi, South Africa were restricted to 228 for 9 with only Hashim Amla coming good. Opener Amla carried his bat right through the South African innings with an unbeaten 119 from 126 balls with 9 fours. The second highest scorer was JP Duminy with 26 which showed that the innings was a single man show from Hashim Amla. Shoaib Akhtar bowled extremely well to get figures of 10-1-39-3. Spinners Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Hafeez picked up two wickets each.
Pakistan in the run chase were pegged back all the time with wickets going down at regular intervals. At 121 for 5 and then when last match hero Razzaq fell at 148 for 6, it seemed to be all over for Pakistan in the 41st over. The runs were hard to come by and youngster Fawad Alam battled out to raise hopes for his side but in the end Pakistan fell short at 226 for 9. Fawad Alam remained unbeaten on 59 which came in 67 balls with 3 fours. Imran Farhat with 47 from 86 balls and Asad Shafiq with 43 from 74 balls contributed meaningfully but couldn't score their runs at the required rate.
Lonwabom Tsotsobe bowled well for his 10-1-28-1 while Morne Morkel, his new ball partner took 4 for 47 in his 10 overs. The Man of the Match was Hashim Amla. The South Africans with this win are leading the 5-ODI Series 2-1.
