The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reacted to Shahid Afridi's retirement from international cricket by suspending his central contract and denying him a No Objection Certificate to play Twenty20 cricket in England and Sri Lanka.

All-rounder Afridi was due to link up with Hampshire ahead of a spell in the Sri Lankan Premier League but his participation in those tournaments has now been scuppered.

He announced his retirement citing differences with the board, saying: "This current board treats players roughly and I will not play under this set-up. But if this set-up is changed only then will I consider coming back because I have always played for my people and will play for them."

A statement from the PCB read as follows: "PCB has initiated action against Afridi in response to the multiple breaches he has committed under the central contract signed with PCB.

"Afridi's central contract has been suspended with immediate effect. Consequently, all NOCs granted to him have been revoked. All payments on account of central contract have been suspended.

"In passing disparaging remarks about the board and its officials Afridi is in breach of clause 4.4 dealing with media obligations," the statement added.
