Ganguly’s Ranji Trophy return is an exercise for the batsman to get some match practice and stay fit ahead of the fourth edition of IPL in 2011. Ganguly had appeared for Bengal in the previous season too for the same reason.
After his retirement in 2008, Ganguly has been playing a few Ranji matches but has not been a part of the team for an entire season. Currently, Bengal are placed fifth out of the eight teams in Group A. They are yet to taste victory this season and could only manage to draw all their matches.
The team is already without the services of Wriddhiman Saha, playing for the national side against the New Zealand and Shreevats Goswami, out with a viral fever.
Ganguly, who played for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, said he is not yet sure of the actual number of games that he would be playing this season and it would depend Bengal’s progress in the tournament.
It was earlier also revealed that Ganguly may not be selected by Kolkata Knight Riders for the fourth edition of the tournament.
