New Zealand Cricket have confirmed that all-rounder James Franklin is to replace Jesse Ryder in New Zealand's One-Day International squad to play India.

Ryder suffered a calf injury during the first match of New Zealand's Test series against India and although he played on, he is not going to be risked for the ODI series.

“Ryder suffered a calf injury in the first Test and although he showed great determination to push through the discomfort in the second and third Test it is clear the injury has not improved," selector Mark Greatbatch told the NZC website (www.blackcaps.co.nz).

“Due to the condensed nature of the tour there is insufficient time to fully recover for the One-Day matches," he added.

“We believe it is best for Jesse to return to New Zealand where he can undergo further assessment and continue his rehabilitation.

“While it’s obviously disappointing for Jesse this gives James a wonderful opportunity. .His ability with the bat and the ball make him the ideal replacement.”

Franklin is already in India having been called up to replace fast bowler Hamish Bennett during the Test series.

New Zealand ODI squad: Daniel Vettori (captain), Grant Elliott, James Franklin, Martin Guptill, Gareth Hopkins, Jamie How, Brendon McCullum, Nathan McCullum, Andy McKay, Kyle Mills, Tim Southee, Scott Styris, Ross Taylor, Daryl Tuffey, Kane Williamson
