Zimbabwe beat Bangladesh by 130 runs in a one-off Test at Harare Sports club on Monday to claim their first victory since making their return to cricket after a six-year absence.
Zimbabwe had set Bangladesh a victory target of 375 runs in their second innings having declared at 291-5 at tea on Sunday.
However, the tourists were bowled out for 244.
Despite a steady start to their second innings the tourists were restricted to 228 at lunch, 147 runs short of their target with only two wickets remaining.
Robiul Islam and RubelHossain were left to continue Bangladesh's unlikely bid, which was ended by Kyle Jarvis when he had Islam, on 12 runs, out for lbw.
Bangladesh needs another 263 runs to beat Zimbabwe with seven wickets left after finishing at 112-3 at stumps on Sunday on the fourth day of the one-off Test match. The tourists are chasing an overall target of 375.
Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor earlier hit a maiden Test century before declaring the second innings at 291-5 at tea.
Opener TamimIqbal scored 43 in Bangladesh's second innings, putting on 65 runs for the first wicket with ImrulKayes (31).
Zimbabwe newcomer Kyle Jarvis ended with 2-40, dismissing Kayes and ShahriarNafees (9) before bad light stopped play at Harare Sports Club.
Zimbabwe is playing in its first Test since 2005 when a fallout between players and administrators led to the country voluntarily withdrawing from the five-day game.
Taylor was unbeaten on 105, becoming the first Zimbabwean to score a century in his first match as captain since Dave Houghton against India in 1992.
Taylor shared a 113-run fifth wicket partnership with TatendaTaibu (59) to restore Zimbabwe's advantage after the African side collapsed to 92-4 on Saturday.
Taibu added just six runs to his lunch time score before he was caught by Robiul Islam in the covers driving off the front foot from Shafiul Islam's bowling.
But Taylor remained composed, taking the attack to the Bangladesh seamers with a wide range of shots in a commanding innings.
He then added 86 runs with newcomer Craig Ervine (35 not out).
"It's a great feeling and it will be better if the result goes our way tomorrow," Taylor said. "I love batting with Tatenda, we feed off each other."
Taylor defended his attacking declaration which gave Bangladesh the evening session and a full day's play to get the runs.
"I felt we needed enough overs to bowl at them on that wicket," Taylor said. "We have the momentum slightly ... they have some quality batsmen still to come. We need to do the basics well if we are to win this game."
Jarvis took his wickets after Kayes nicked the ball to wicketkeeperTaibu and Nafees was clean bowled.
Iqbal was out after misjudged Chris Mpofu's angled delivery.
"My dismissal was key to our run chase," Iqbal said. "If I had remained there we would have been chasing 250 on the final day."
Iqbal denied that Bangladesh was unable to contain Jarvis and Brian Vitori, who got 4-66 in the first innings.
"He (Jarvis) is okay, he is nothing special," Iqbal said. "Vitori is ordinary. I'm being honest, he's ordinary."
