Sri Lanka failed in their bid for a series-leveling victory in the third and final Test against Pakistan on Monday, frustrated by a lengthy rain delay and the resistance of the hosts at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Pakistan, set an improbable 255 to win in a minimum of 61 overs, ended on 87-4 to secure a draw and wrap up a 1-0 series victory.
Younis Khan hit a confident 122 on Saturday but Sri Lanka's bowlers hit back to keep Pakistan under pressure after day three of the third and final Test at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
The hosts closed on 282-6, still trailing by 131 runs.
Younis' 18th Test century helped Pakistan recover from 35-2 at the start of the day. The former captain lashed 12 fours and two sixes off 211 balls in 291 minutes.
The right-hander shared successive partnerships of 98 and 100 partnerships with Azhar Ali (53) and captain Misbah-ul-Haq (50 not out) before Sri Lanka hit back in the final session.
Left-arm seamer ChanakaWelegedara (3-62) spearheaded the visitors' attack while left-arm spinner RanganaHerath grabbed 2-73.
Younis and Azhar dulled Sri Lanka's attack in the morning session as they repaired the damage of the previous evening when both openers perished cheaply.
The pair played out three consecutive maidens to start the day and only got the first run of their partnership after 51 deliveries.
Kumar Sangakkara's 27th test century helped Sri Lanka reach 245 for two and into a strong position at stumps on the first day of their must-win third and final test against Pakistan in neutral Sharjah on Thursday.
Sangakkara (112 not out) is 11th on the all-time list of test century scorers and alongside the similarly prolific MahelaJayawardene (32 not out), who is closing on 10,000 test runs, he helped the team recover from an early setback.

Former captain Sangakkara was unbeaten on 35 as Sri Lanka reached lunch at 75 for one on the first day after winning the toss and electing to bat.
The 33-year-old Sangakkara, in his 103rd Test, became the 11th player to pass 9,000 Test runs when he reached 28. He is the second Sri Lankan to the milestone behind teammate MahelaJayawardene, who has 9,895.
Sangakkara hit four boundaries and faced 86 deliveries in an unbroken second-wicket partnership of 71 with captain TillakaratneDilshan, who has stroked five boundaries in his unbeaten 33.
UmarGul (1-24) gave the hosts a breakthrough in the first over when TharangaParanavitana edged to second slip and Younis Khan pouched a fine, high catch.
Paranavitana had been dropped off his previous delivery, a sharp inside edge not clutched by Azhar Ali at short leg.
But after the inital setback, Sangakkara and Dilshan batted purposefully to dull the Pakistan attack.
Gul thought he removed Dilshan just before lunch, but umpire ShahvirTarapore ruled not out on a legside catch by the wicketkeeper. TV replays indicated it brushed the glove on the way through.
