Sri Lanka clinched their first ever T20 World Cup beating India comprehensively in a low-scoring contest at Dhaka today.

Indian batting was tamed by the Lankan bowling completely. Virat Kohli was the lone man fighting with a knock of 77 from 58 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes. At the other end, batsmen struggled to get going, especially Yuvraj Singh who played one of the worst knocks, scoring just 11 runs from 21 balls during the business end of the Indian innings.

India struggled to reach 130 for 4 as all the Lankan bowlers performed exceedingly well. The first 10 overs saw India score 64 runs while the last 10 saw just 66 runs. The final overs were too tough for the Indians to score with Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara bowling yorkers at will.

Sri Lanka got through the chase as expected as India just didn’t have enough runs on the board. There was a fightback from India when Sri Lanka lost Lahiru Thirimanne with the score at 78 for 4 in the 13th over. Kumar Sangakkara held his nerve though along with Thisara Perera to wrap up the run chase without any fuss.

Sangakkara playing his last ever T20I remained unbeaten with 52 from 35 balls to collect the Man of the Match. Thisara Perera took off the pressure on him with a cameo of 23 not out from 14 balls with 3 sixes. India’s only consolation was Virat Kohli taking the Player of the Series award.

Toss and Teams: Sri Lanka have won the toss and chose to bowl first. They have made one change to their team with Thissara Perera replacing Seekkuge Prasanna. India remains unchanged.

Update at 6:00 pm IST: Rain has delayed the start of the Final of the ICC World T20 2014 between India and Sri Lanka. The official news is that the match will start at 7:10 pm IST provided that the rain stays away.
