Thisara Perera’s blinder and Darren Sammy’s timely big hits helped Sunrisers Hyderabad to clinch a thrilling 4-wicket with just three balls to spare against the Trinidad and Tobago at Mohali. When the Sunrisers were in the dump at 95 for 4 in the 14th over, chasing 161, Thisara Perera swung his bat confidently to win the match with an unbeaten 57 from just 32 balls with 4 fours and 4 sixes.

Sunrisers got off to an appropriate start of 35 from its openers in 4.1 overs. Parthiv Patel, who took a blow below his eye, chipped in with 17 from 15 balls before edging a cut off Narine to short thirdman. Skipper Shikhar Dhawan was looking good for his 23 (from 18 balls) before he was caught and bowled trying to tuck a short ball from Navin Stewart. When JP Duminy (17 from 16 balls) got run out because of a mix up with Hanuma Vihari, Sunrisers had almost lost the game at 70 for 3 in 10.1 overs.

Thisara Perera had other ideas though and with his lusty hitting right from the word go, Sunrisers were kept alive in the contest. Sammy helped him add 47 runs for the 5th wicket while contributing a run-a-ball 15. Sunil Narine got his wicket in the 18th over and in the very next ball had caught and bowled Ashish Reddy to finish with tremendous figures of 4-1-9-4.

Sunrisers needed 19 from the last two overs. Ravi Rampaul was taken for 12 in the penultimate over and it boiled down to 7 from the last over. Thisara Perera was stranded at the non-striker’s end but his partner Karan Sharma with a four and a six off Navin Stewart wrapped up the game in style.

Trinidad & Tobago Innings: Trinidad and Tobago overcame some minor hiccups in the middle overs to end up with a healthy total of 160 for 8. The pitch has enough in it to aid lateral movement but the excessive dew conditions are making it difficult for both the bowlers and the fielders.

It was a worst possible start for T&T as opener Lendl Simmons got caught behind off the first ball of the match when he charged down the track to Dale Steyn. T&T got a breezy partnership of 49 for the 2nd wicket after that. Ishant Sharma broke the stand with the wicket of Evin Lewis (22 from 14 balls) with one that seamed away from middle. Darren Bravo showed his class smacking 5 fours and 4 sixes to race away to 66 from 44 balls to put T&T on top. Ishant got Bravo out in the 14th over and in four balls time, Sammy got the other set batsman Jason Mohammad (19 from 27 balls) out.

T&T slipped from a good position of 110 for 2 to 124 for 5 going into the death overs. Skipper Denesh Ramdin with 21 from 15 balls and all-rounder Navin Stewart with 17 from 13 balls played crucial cameos to lift their team to a good total. Darren Sammy and Thisara Perera had a good outing with the ball for Sunrisers taking two wickets each. Perera for his all-round show of 2 for 26 and 57* got the Man of the Match.

Toss and Teams: Sunrisers Hyderabad have won the toss and asked T&T to bat first at Mohali on a pitch that is still damp because of the rain this afternoon. As the first match between Brisbane Heat and Titans suggest, this game could also be a slightly low-scoring contest. That is because both the Sunrisers and T&T have quality fast bowlers in their line-ups.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Shikhar Dhawan (C), Parthiv Patel (WK), Jean-Paul Duminy, Thisara Perera, Darren Sammy, Hanuma Vihari, Ashish Reddy, Karan Sharma, Amit Mishra, Dale Steyn, Ishant Sharma

Trinidad and Tobago: Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Darren Bravo, Jason Mohammed, Denesh Ramdin (C&WK), Nicolas Pooran, Navin Stewart, Rayad Emrit, Sunil Narine, Samuel Badree, Ravi Rampaul
