Both Australia captain Steven Smith and South African skipper Faf du Plessis stuck to their guns over the David Warner-Quinton de Kock incident.

Speaking at the press conference after South Africa went down in the Test, Faf du Plessis said, "I heard there was a lot of personal stuff on the field already. To and from. Who started it, I don't know. If it was happening on the field, it probably should have been nipped in the bud on the field already."

Smith, however, contradicted that and said, "I think we were certainly very chirpy on the field as well. As far as I am aware we didn't get personal with Quinton."

Warner allegedly made comments about de Kock's mother and sister, to which the latter allegedly responded by speaking about Warner's wife.

"I think what was said and done during that interval was regrettable on both sides. Obviously Quinton got quite personal and provoked an emotional response from Davey. I think those things are not on from both sides. Getting personal on the field is not on and that is crossing the line in my opinion,” Smith stated.
