Gautam Gambhir has been dropped while Harbhajan Singh has been recalled to the Indian squad for the first two Tests against Australia, the Indian selection committee announced in Mumbai, on Sunday.
Shikhar Dhawan, has got a great opportunity to prove his worth at the Test level. Dhawan, who has enjoyed a great domestic season, has been on the fringes of Test selection for a couple of years, and it is nice to know that the selectors have rewarded him for some wonderful performances in first-class cricket this season, which has produced 833 runs at an average of over 55.
The recall of Harbhajan Singh ahead of Piyush Chawla was also on expected lines. Although Singh hasn’t been at his best this season, he did show some glimpses of form in the Irani Cup that concluded on the same day as India’s team selection.
The first Test match of the four-test match series will be played in Chennai from February 22.
